Julian became a councillor in 2019 and was Cabinet Member for the Environment and then Environment Committee Chair at Swale Borough Council, before stepping down in 2023. On the previous Town Council he took the lead in developing the Faversham Community Lottery, chaired the working group that developed the Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan and was heavily involved in the campaign to make the 20mph scheme permanent.

He is particularly interested in making it easier to walk and bike around town, finding other ways to cut traffic congestion and attracting more grant funding to improve the town’s facilities and services.

Away from the Council he is on the committees of Faversham Town Twinning Association, Faversham  Footpaths Group and Vice Chair of Bensteds Charity. Julian also presents a fortnightly jazz show on Faversham Community Radio.

Before he moved to Faversham Julian worked in local government for thirty years, mainly in the development and management of employment and advice projects. He has been a member of the Labour Party for over forty years and strongly believes in their town manifesto commitments to work in the interest of all residents; improve public spaces, buildings and services; and grow a sustainable community.
