A251/M2 Closures

Published: 28 July 2020

As you may be aware SGN has planned works closing the A251 until 20th August 2020 between the junctions of Ashford Road and North Street, Sheldwich.

The Highways England has planned night closures of the M2 London bound between the hours of 20:00 and 06:00 running until 7th August 2020 Monday to Fridays only.

Although Kent County Council has challenged the decision to have both running consecutively with Highways England, the decision was made, by HE, to proceed with the M2 works as the A251 is not part of their diversion route. Highways England diversion route is via the A2 to Dover/A20/M20 and traffic may choose to use the A251, that in mind we have requested extra traffic marshalls to be posted at the London bound slip and that they are in constant communication with the SGN 24hr traffic marshalls to assist road users.

Signage will be positioned to direct drivers using symbols for the separate HE diversion routes and in addition “unsuitable for diversion route signs” will be placed on the network at junctions that should not be used for the diversion. As with all planned closures it is hoped that the works are completed with limited inconvenience, however, please find the information below to direct enquiries:
